1911 Operators Course

With Guest instructor Benjamin DeWalt

Benjamin DeWalt is the co-founder and senior instructor of OnSight Firearms Training.    Ben has 6 years experience as a gunsmith with Kimber, and has taught numerous students the intricacies of a 1911.  Ben has been a life-long martial artist and firearms enthusiast, starting as a kid with long guns in western Pennsylvania. His accreditations include various NRA instructor certifications, Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Instructor certification, and Massachusetts State Police Certified Firearms Instructor. Benjamin has been teaching various defensive-focused shooting classes since 2005. He has also been teaching martial arts and hand-to-hand self-defense since 2010.

Equipment List

All students must bring:


  • Winter gloves
  • 1911 pistol
  • Minimum of 500 rounds of quality ammunition.
  • Quality eye and ear protection.

  • Three magazines minimum with magazine carriers/pouch, etc.

  • Sturdy belt and strong side quality holster.  No Serpa Style, NO flimsy, dangling or cloth holsters. Leather or Kydex preferred.  
Notepad and pen for taking notes.

Bring a lunch, snacks, water.  


Lunch can be purchased at the Dalton Country Store through RFT if desired.
